Finalizing the Building Project!
Beginning in September 2006, the Administrators began talking about what work needed to be done on our school buildings. As you know, taking care of a school building is very similar to taking care of your house-there is always something that needs to be done. It was time that we talked about the items that needed to be updated or fixed on each of our three buildings.
Almost four and a half years later, I can say we have completed an outstanding building project. All three of our schools have had major renovations and additions. This project that was supported by our community from tax dollars has provided our students the opportunities that they deserve. I remember our chemistry teacher, Mike Schlemmer, speaking to our community and he stated, "Give me a ruler and I can teach but give me updated equipment and science labs and I can teach better". Updated science labs are one example of how our students will now benefit from this project! The facilities at Western Boone Jr. Sr. High School have gone from the original 1970s to the updated 2010!
I would personally like to invite our public to our buildings to view these changes. What will one find?
Thorntown Elementary has a new cafeteria, updated technology in each classroom, new playground, new art room, restrooms and updated classrooms.
Granville Wells Elementary School has an expanded cafeteria and office, updated technology in each classroom and a new kindergarten wing.
Western Boone Jr. Sr. High School has updated art, family and consumer sciences and science classrooms. There is a new safe and secure front office, renovated office spaces including a multi-purpose room, renovated restrooms and locker rooms, classrooms have updated technology, and there is also a larger weight room and additional gym space.
